Did you know that the average lubrication system ( at 12 pints per day) will put through five hundred and fifty gallons, and will cycle one million times a year? One can see that proper cylinder and packing lubrication must be monitored and maintained.
Cylinder lubrication reduces friction between rings and cylinder bore, lubricates the compressor valves, and protects the cylinder wall from corrosion.
Packing lubrication serves primarily as a deterrent to rod wear and as a cooling medium by reducing friction. Lube rates must be just enough for proper lubrication or the packing can 'gum up', or stick to the packing cup surfaces. |
